Nintendo has released its first-party Joy-Con charging station

Nintendo has revealed its own official Joy-Con controller charging station, set to launch on October 17. This will be a great benefit for fans of couch co-op gaming, as it allows for two Joy-Cons to be charging on the dock while another two can be charging through the console simultaneously. Additionally, Nintendo’s charging station is compatible with the company’s retro wireless NES gamepads, which are commonly used for Nintendo Switch Online games.

The Joy-Con Charging Dock (bi-directional) is powered by the Switch’s dock, USB-C port, or any other power source. The upright can also be removed to make it more portable, another bonus for those co-op bedrooms. Nintendo has yet to release pricing information as of the October release date. It is currently slated to launch in the US, Europe and Japan. October 17th is the same day Super Mario Party Jamboree is released, so it would make for some good accessory-based synergy.

It’s worth noting that the Nintendo Switch is over seven years old. This accessory will be released 2,785 days after the console was originally released. Heck, the Switch 2 (or whatever it’s called) will likely hit store shelves early next year. I will say that this would have been much more useful six or seven years ago. Better late than never?

This will likely be the Switch’s last holiday season. A new Legend of Zelda game will be released on September 26, along with a themed console. Another big title around the holiday is Mario & Luigi: Brothership, which comes out on November 7th.
